to pass time, learn a new hobby or start a new project

At the moment I am learning to program a dreambox.
It came already setup but the guy who set it up placed a password on it and refused to give it to me.
Probably intended that I would come back to him if anything needed to be done with it.
Will he got something coming.
I have had it little over a week and decided to erase the information that was on there and program it myself.
Oh boy, lucky I had to learn dos in the old days or I would be totally lost. The commands whilst in linux reminds me of DOS commands.
Didnt even have to look at the old DOS book to get back up to scratch as it is all coming slowly back.
Windows really gets you lazy when you come to think of it.
Since my time is limited, this is an on and off project, but I am reading everything I can get my hands on.
Oh, when you need to learn something and it is in a foreign language.
Desperation to get the job done;has a way of helping you to interpret information in a foriegn language.
Also trail and error until you get it to work, pays off.
By the end of this month I should have it up and running.
Just thought I would update you all on what I have been doing, whilst waitng for the fix to come down the pipeline.
As soon as I get this up and running I will try and write up a tutorial.
