how do you install new skins and backgound picutures?

I have a dreambox 500 and have been wondering if anyone out there can tell me how to install new skins and backgroung pictures like the one that displays when the music is on. or atleast show me where i can go so i can learn. Also what programs i need to use to do this. I have pretty much all the programs that are out there but incase i need some other ones tell me which ones i need. thanks
