DVB Cards For Dummies. Everything you need is right here

DVB Cards For Dummies. Everything you need is right here

I created this guide as a response to many PM's I received from users at another site with requests to get their Twinhan DVB cards up and running. This is what worked for me. I thought my long time friends here ***** would also enjoy my DVB Cards For Dummies Guide, so here you go! I Hope to see it as a Sticky here at **** too.

First make sure the card is hooked up, and drivers are installed. Then make sure it’s plugged in and the satellite cable is hooked into the card. If the satellite cable is running in from a dishnet switch like a sw21 it will not work. Get your ass up to the roof and unhook that switch and use a diseqc switch or just be happy with hooking up to the 110 bird for now until you have a switch to hook multiple birds up at the same time.

You can not use an SW21 switch with this card( you can but its really complicated and if you are reading this hoping to get your TV up and running its out of your league right now) You also cant use one of those quad end DishPro LNBs, it has to be a regular old LNB from the dish.

Next, I'm partial towards MyTheatre so I’m including instructions to get it running. You can download it from the manufacturer’s website for free; the cost to register it is 40 dollars. The free version works like the full version but shuts down after an hour and you need to reboot the computer to get it to run again. It’s a great piece of software well worth the 40 bucks.

Now I've included many files in here, some files contain the same stuff as other ones ive included but they aren’t all exactly the same so don’t worry about it; it's all good stuff you want and that’s all that matters. If you just follow these instructions and don’t worry about what's duplicated and what’s not you will have TV working really soon. If someone wants to neaten up these files and instructions go ahead. I'm posting what I have done to get things working perfectly and if you follow exactly what I’m writing you will be up and running shortly and look like you know what you are doing, even if you don’t and are doing some redundant stuff. It works and that’s all that counts

After installing MyTheatre, unzip N2 for dvb Compiled by Sloth 9 01 05.zip file I’ve attached. Unzip this to the my theatre directory, by default it is in c:\program files\ my theatre. After that go to the MyTheatre directory, you will see it made a folder in there called N2 for DVB. Go into that folder cut the MDplugins folder and paste in the MyTheatre directory, go back and cut the keys.bin file and place it in my theatre directory. Go back and cut and past the plugins folder into my theatre directory, when it asks if you want to replace the contents of the one already there click yes.

Next unzip the Powerview Plugins.zip file I’ve attached. Unzip it to you desktop. Now go into the plugins folder and copy all the files in there and place them into the plugins folder in my theatre, when it asks you if you want to replace the same named plugin files in there already just say yes. Now do the same for the MD plugin folder, and put those in the md pugin folder in MyTheatre, clicking yes to replace files that are already there.

Yes I understand this seems redundant, but just do it for TV. It works remember I could tell you to to do 10 pushups in between all these instructions too, as long as it works that’s all that matters.

Next unzip s2emu1171_Plugins-1.zip to your desktop. It’s a .Rar file inside a zip so if you can’t open it go download winrar from the net. After unzipping it to your desktop or wherever you like, go into the plugins folder and copy all those files into the plugins folder in my theatre, just like you did above, again, when a duplicate file exists just say yes to replace it.

Now, Boot up my theatre, Don’t get too excited we aren’t at TV yet… just right click your mouse on the screen. This will bring up a menu box. Go to settings then click on LNB Diseqc settings and scan menu.

This will bring up a new and exciting window full of different satellites and stuff like that. Just ignore them all. You are only interested in the Echostar birds. 119 is Echostar 7, on my menu that is 81 birds down from the top, and 110 is called DirecTV 6, Echostar 6,8 and is 6 more birds down from Echostar 7. Chose whatever bird you are hooked up to, (110 has about 350 channels and 119 has about 100 or so) and hit apply. Now in the lower right hand corner you will see a BLUE colored key called Sel ALL, click on that key, then click on the BLUE colored key next to it called SCAN. It will start scanning the transponders. You will see a pause and it should tell you its gathering info, then it will tell you how many channels it found on that transponder and will move on to the next one until its done. When its done you will see the message scan complete.

Its normal for it to not find anything on some transponders. However, if you see that it says nothing found on all of them, you need to stop and troubleshoot a few things. Make sure your DVB card or USB box is installed with its drivers. Make sure MyTheatre is recognizing your card. You can see it in the lower left hand corner of MyTheatre start up screen. MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT USING A dishnet SWITCH OR A DISHPRO LNB!!! This is the cause 99% of the time nothing is found. If you have a USB starbox, unplug the USB and plug it back in and listen to see if windows makes that noise that it is properly recognized (kinda like “ding dong. When you unplug it then “dong ding” when you plug it back in. If when you plug it back in you get about 4 quick low beeps all in a row it’s a driver problem. Reinstall the drivers and reboot your computer and try again. Repeat the above over again until your card is recognized and you find the channels.

There is a scenario where the use of a diseqc switch with a long run of cable causes problems. In this case people have posted the use of a DP21 switch solved their problems. If you arent getting any signal with the diseqc switch configure your diseqc switch settings in MyTheatre. Do like you did above. Right click on the screen, go to settings then select LNB Diseqc settings and scan menu. There is a button in lower middle of that screen with BLUE letters surrounded by a green box that says DiSEqC, click on that. Try checking the first box and changing the settings to committed LNB2, then click the "DO NOW" button in that window, then the "OK" button, and now go and try rescanning the bird. Play around with the settings trying different LNB's untill you find it. If you still find nothing just unhook from the switch and hook directly into 110 and do a scan to see if you find anything, if you find 110 then you know the diseqc switch is the problem. Do some reading on this and the use of a DP21 switch to troubleshoot this.

After finding the channels close the windows, and close my theatre, reboot it and select a channel. You will now be watching TV if you followed the above correctly, if you still dont see tv repeat the above instructions, carefully make sure that inside the MD plugins folder there are only files and not another folder, and the same for the plugins folder Make sure the Keys.bin file is right in the MyTheatre directory. Reboot the computer and restart myTheatre, you should be watching TV if you followed the instructions above. If you did,and still dont see TV go double check yourself, and triple check yourself if you still arent watching tv after a double check. If after a triple check and no TV, my guess is the MD PLUGINS or plugins are double foldered, or the key.bin file isn’t in the my theatre directory folder.

Yea You now have TV, give yourself a pat on the back, but its not time to celebrate just yet, you have to perfect it first and get rid of those black screen nagra1 channels.

To get rid of those black screen useless nagra1 channels make sure you have Microsoft access installed on your machine and run byenagra1. It’s a script that will eliminate all the black screens of nagra one channels for you so each channel that remains afterwards in MyTheatre will have TV on it. Don’t worry about all the warnings Microsoft gives you about running scripts and code. Ignore them and keep telling no you don’t want to block scripts and yes you want to open it and yes you want to run it. After you see the nice box nagra1 channels removed you will only have working channels in my theatre now. Please note that because its like a week old now you may remove nagra1 channels that have converted to nagra2 to be totally safe and not loose working channels manually remove each black channel. Now you can use the rename utility if you want. It does a nice job at naming a lot of channels so they are more detailed.

To get your EPG working properly do the following, Right click on the screen go to settings, then general settings, then the EPG tab my current settings are:

use dvdcore parser checked
serve only favorites unchecked
external epg unchecked
parse 7-day dish guide unchecked...(if you want to see whats on for the next 7 days then check this box, but it takes a long time to load the EPG, especially on a slow computer if its checked)

internal manager selected.

also very important - change compact epg to exit.

Grab some popcorn some beer and your old lady. Enjoy TV again.

Don’t thank me thank the brilliant minds that made this happen, and TAKE THE TIME TO HELP A NEWBIE!!!! Each one teach one

I know there is the search button, but a little help goes a long way. The files I have attached are all from posts by other members from various respected sites. Props go to them for posting them. I simply put all those attachments together and wrote a guide. I wanted to make a kinda one stop post with everything in one place to make things easier on the newbie’s like me who are spending days reading and searching and trying to understand this new FTA stuff.

If you are thinking about getting a DVB card, do it. They are cheap and can’t be beat. They are even High Definition compatible, and its nice to have full EPG. It also sure as hell beats getting time bombed. Look around, there are funerals daily for receivers killed in the line of duty. It's a dangerous time right now for FTA receivers especially clones. Check your local computer store they may not stock them but may be able to order one for you and if they do stock them they will always be cheaper than a sat dealer. FleBay is another place. There is a remote control problem with the USB dvb cards like starbox and my theatre. The remote doesn’t work yet because of driver issues but if you get the less expensive PCI version, the remote works fine.

I hope This Helps.

(I will upload the needed files later and merge them into this post-Grynner)
