A common question that is asked over and over again is “How do I add my locals or missing channels to my channel list?” I hope this simple guide helps………

If you scanned your sats in and DID NOT load a channel list, your locals are probably already on your receiver, you simply may not have found them yet. Use the links below to help you find them in your existing list.

The simplest way to add locals to your channel list is to scan them in. Then you can edit and clean up your channel list with “Channel Master”

You will find using a program such as Channel Master is a necessity when working with your channel list. If you do not have Channel Master, FOLLOW THIS LINK

Locals are beamed in two ways, Conus and Spot Beam.

Conus - These are locals that everyone can get no matter where you live. On satellites 110 & 119 example Conus locals are Roanoke, Little Rock, Lexington, Knoxville, Denver, Jackson, Atlanta, Springfield, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

Spot Beams - These channels are only available in the region where you live. Use the following links to determine what locals are available to you and what transponders they are on. A spot beam signal resembles a poorly focused flashlight, therefore, if you are located near the center of the spot beam, you should have no problem with your locals, HOWEVER, if you’re on the edge of a spot beam you just may or may not be able to view them after scanning. Even though all the channels info scanned into your receiver, these channels may come in and out while viewing. This is not due to a problem with the bin.

Adding channels to an existing channel list by TP Scanning:

The simplest way to add locals to your channel list is to scan them in. Then you can edit and clean up your channel list with “Channel Master”. Channel Master has a fairly good Help section, ...


1.If you do not have a channel list already loaded in your receiver you have 2 options:

A. load the channel list of your choice, with Channel Master.
If you loaded a Channel List that you found on a forum, hopefully Future-FTA, make sure the list operates and functions properly for you before attempting to add more channels. This will avoid undue complications and there is no reason to compound problems.

B. Scan in your own channel list.(preferred)


2. On your RECIEVER, go into ANTENNA SETUP and choose TP SCAN. From the information obtained from the sites listed above, choose the satellite and TP that your locals or missing channels are on and scan that TP. Repeat this with other TPs until you get all your locals or missing channels. Your stations will show up with a call sign such as “kptv” which is Fox Portland. Don’t worry about the other channels you scanned in that aren’t your locals, they can be deleted later if you choose.

3. Go back and check to see if the channels and TPs you scanned are coming in and also check to see that all existing channels on that TP operate properly. Reminder: A spot beam signal resembles a poorly focused flashlight, therefore, if you’re on the edge of a spot beam you just might or might not be able to get them in after scanning, or when viewing they may come in and out. So it’s best to check before you delete them. Some days you have them, some days you don’t. This is not due to a problem with the bin.

4. Now once you have all your channels scanned in, you can leave them as is on your receiver, WATCH TV
OR
connect your receiver to your PC and open Channel Master and UPLOAD the list to your PC.

Before proceeding, it is suggested that you save your list as a .gtd NOW. This way you can reload the list back to your PC or receiver if you make mistakes in the following steps

5. Locate the sat in the list, 110, 119, 91, etc, and left click on the + beside the sat name to expand the list and view the TPs on that Sat.

6. Find and click on the TP that you scanned your channels with. Now you can start deleting all the channels that you don’t need. Out of all the channels that you scanned only keep the channels you want.

7 Next you may want to rename your locals (optional) …to RENAME the channels that you scanned you can do this by right clicking on the channel you want to rename and select Properties. Type it in the name of your choosing. For example ABC - 13

8. Now you have two options.
A. SAVE your channel list as a .gtd It is suggested you choose a different name than your original list, this way you have an original backup list and DOWNLOAD it back to your receiver. Once it's on your receiver the new channels will appear mixed within the other channels

B. Reassign a channel number to your locals. Find the Channels you just scanned and/or renamed. Right click the channel you want to reassign, Properties, and enter the channel number where you want the channel to appear. For example, you can list your locals on the front of your list (channels 1-7) If there is a conflict, Channel Master will offer you options to correct.
As you learn your way around Channel Master, there are many advanced options and modifications available for the experienced user.

9. Once you're done editing, deleting and renaming, SAVE your channel list as a .gtd It is suggested you choose a different name than your original list, this way you have an original backup list.
Load your new channel list back to your RECIEVER.
