Step by Step procedure for loading files to/from Viewsat 7000 PVR.

C&p,thanks goes to johniedoe

step by step procedure for loading files to/from viewsat 7000 pvr.

this is a simple guide that i prepared to help new users.

Assuming you have installed and formatted the hard drive and have installed usb explorer these are the steps you need to take to transfer files to and from a vs7kpvr.

If you can connect to the pvr without disconnecting the tv then you may not need to follow all the steps.
I have included some additional steps for those of us who need to disconnect when we interface with a computer.
If you have the pvr still connected to the tv you may want to disable the menu lock first.
I wasn't able to interface with the computer until i did. (maybe it was just me) press menu
installation
parental control
down arrow to menu lock and right/or left arrow until it says off.

You can now exit from the menu and power down the stb.
Make sure that you power off with the back switch before connecting or disconnecting any cables.
You can now proceed to connect the pvr to your computer via the usb port which is located behind the door on the right front of the pvr.
Once you have everything connected power on the pvr and start usb explorer. Make sure the the pvr is completely on.
You may want to use your remote to try to change channels.
If the numbers on the front display don't change it may be displaying the time. Press power on the remote.
When you are sure that it is in view mode press c on the bottom of the remote. This will invoke the usb communication for the pvr.
Now you should be able to access the hard drive in the pvr with usb explorer.

Transfering files to/from your pvr will be done inside usb explorer.
Usb explorer will appear with 4 window panes.
Upper left is your computer
lower left the pvr
upper right will allow you to browse the directorys of your computer
lower right will allow you to browse the directorys of your pvr.
In the pvr program folder any programs that you have recorded will be listed.

You can drag then from there to any folder on your computer.
I don't know if you can convert oduring the transfer or not.
I haven't tried that yet.

In the pvr files folder you will see the following folders:
mp3
jpeg
capture
upgrade files
epg mp3 folder is for your mp3 files.
You can transfer your favorite mp3 files here and listen to them on your tv.
Jpeg folder is for pictures that you want to put on your drive and view on your tv screen.
Capture is where i assume you would find images that you capture from tv. (i haven't tried yet) upgrade files is the folder that you put your fta bin or .pgm files.
This is a great feature because you can store the factory bins and older versions if you want to revert to them at a later date.
This is by far the fastest way to upgrade to the new bins.
Locate the .pgm file that you want to transfer and drag it into this folder.
Epg is the folder where the pvr saves a file with the current guide info.
Once you have transfered the files that you want you can power off your pvr with the switch on the back.
Disconnect your usb cable and hook the pvr up to your tv again.

upgrading your pvr with transfered files.

power up the system. Press menu
record service
upgrade file list
select the file and press ok.
This is much faster than using the serial cable.
When it is finished it will ask you to unplug the unit.
Use the switch on the back; turn it off and back on.
Your pvr now has the fta bin installed. Y
ou may need to rescan your birds; but everything is working. Enjoy!!!
