BASICS FOR VIEWSAT VS2000 PLATINUM SETUP
*Revised Jan. 18, 2006*
WARNING!!! IF you use a DISEQC SWITCH, DO NOT power your VIEWSAT ON before the Dish Coax is connected! If your Viewsat is ON and then you connect your Dish Coax, a sudden voltage spike WILL KILL your DISEQC SWITCH.
Please know that files change often and this text will speak broadly of files required. At this point you do not need to have the Dish and TV connected. Monitor your Viewsat 2000 Platinum with the LED Display on your Viewsat and the LOADER Program.
*** As of today, FOUR files are required as follows:
A Loader to install files: LOADER2.EXE is Version 2 of Loader for VS2000.
A PGM file that re-programs your Viewsat 2000. VS2000_NEWOSD_V1032.PGM is a example, but please note, this file will CHANGE as fixes get better!
A Sattelite List : 91+110+119.sat is a example.
It is important that you locate a Sattelite List that is Local to your area because Spot Beams will differ from city to city. Use a LOCAL*.CHA List because a Channel List from N.Y. will be very different from a L.A. Channel List.
Your Satellite List and Channel List work in concert. If they differ too much you will have difficulties with your Receiver Channel Guide and scans. If your final list fails or is too disorganized, suspect these two files. Notes: LOADER2.EXE file will recognize *.PGM, *.SAT, and *.CHA Files. It also installs *.HEX files but they are no longer required. Loader2.EXE MAY also load other types of files, but I used only these 3 file types to get my Viewsat operational. OPKEY.ZIP is a tiny 64K file and is NO LONGER REQUIRED! KEYS are now “Auto-Roll” and will self adjust as required. NO NEED to install ‘keys’ now and let’s hope not ever.
*** IMPORTANT! You MUST use a NULL MODEM CABLE to load data into your Viewsat 2000 Platinum! Nothing else will work.
*** As you load files into your Viewsat you MUST first turn the AC OFF at the rear rocker power switch on your Viewsat or UNPLUG the AC! No exceptions or your files won’t load. _____________ STEP 1 _____________________
1. Receiver OFF at the ROCKER SWITCH on the rear panel!
2. Open the LOADER2.EXE file.
3. Open the VS2000_NEWOSD_V1032.PGM file with your LOADER2 program.
4. Click on "PC->STB" Button and watch for "ZMODEM" box to appear.
5. Now turn your Viewsat 2000 ON. You will see a ‘transfer scale’ indicate File Transfer Progress. If you fail to see the transfer scale, suspect your cable! Many receivers are shipped with the wrong cable. You need a NULL cable.
NOW WAIT! DO NOT turn your Receiver OFF or disconnect it too soon!
*** This is extremely important... ONLY AFTER the Viewsat LED's show "0000" do you turn OFF the rear Viewsat rocker switch!
Your Viewsat Channel LED's will indicat "instl", then "end". then "0000". NOW power OFF. DO NOT turn your Receiver OFF or disconnect it too soon! ________________ STEP 2 _____________________
1. RECEIVER OFF with rear rocker power switch.
2. START LOADER2.EXE.
3. Open your satinfo.sat file.
4. Click on "PC->STB" Button and watch for "ZMODEM" box to appear.
5. Turn your Viewsat 2000 ON. You will see the scale indicate File Transfer Progress.
NOW WAIT! DO NOT turn your Receiver OFF or disconnect it too soon! This file loads much faster. ________________ STEP 3 __________________
1. RECEIVER OFF with rear rocker power switch.
2. START LOADER2.EXE If the .PGM file is still showing, select “Clear”.
3. Open file: your LOCAL *.CHA List
4. Click on "PC->STB" Button and watch for "ZMODEM" box to appear.
5. Turn your Viewsat 2000 ON. You will see the transfer scale indicate File Transfer Progress.
NOW WAIT! DO NOT turn your Receiver OFF or disconnect it too soon! This file will take a little longer because it’s larger than the *.SAT file. _______________ FINAL SETUP _______________
FINAL WARNING!!! DO NOT turn your VIEWSAT POWER ON before your Dish Antenna Coax is connected. The DISEQC SWITCH connected near the dishes is vurnerable to VOLTAGE SPIKES! If your Viewsat is ON and you connect your Dish Coax, a sudden voltage spike WILL KILL your switch!
You may now connect your Viewsat to your Dish(es) and TV. For best picture quality use the S-VIDEO output whenever possible.
S-Video provides COLOR information DIRECTLY to your TV/DVD Recorder/VCR video circuits. It does NOT use the RF Modulator, TV Tuner and actually more electronics to transfer picture information from your Viewsat. With those items bypassed the result is a MUCH cleaner DIRECT picture. After making all connections, switch your Viewsat ON.
With your Remote, go to MENU-->INSTALLATION--> Enter CODE 0000 > and select ANTENNA SETUP.
Select Satellite to be Searched using large Black "LEFT" or "RIGHT" remote ARROW keys.
RIGHT ARROW TO: EchoStar 6,8 110.0W
LNB Power = ON.
LNB Type = "UNIVERSAL" *NOTE Apparently this setting has changed! PAST .PGM files require "STANDARD"... this may be a bug?
LNB HIGH: 5750
LNB LOW: 11250
TP: 12224
Search Option = ALL.
DiSEqC 1.0 = Port 'X' (NONE if only 1 LNB) "X" is the Port Switch to match 110 Dish.
Motor Off (if none)
Legasy SW = None
* Now SAVE the information as you press EXIT.
Re-open the “ANTENNA SETUP” menu. Now highlight TP FREQ with your remote ~ select "OK". Viewsat now automatically searches for all radio & TV channels on bird. Now select ‘save’ as you exit.
Repeat the above steps for 110, 119 and other Satellites as required.
Use ARROW buttons to: EchoStar 7 119.0W Use the same settings above except as follows:
Set the DiSEqC 1.0 settings to agree with Dish Port Switch IF you use one.
* Now SAVE the information as you press EXIT.
I give a special thanks to RMJOE ~ who is always willing to help others.
Enjoy!
